How to Master Time and Manage Time, and What is the Difference

How to Master Time? What does it mean? Certainly not managing time. Between managing and mastering the way you use your time is quite a difference. Why we manage our time? Right, to be more efficient, to wring our day ‘dry to the last drop’ so as to have as much productivity squeezed out of as possible. To be an efficient time manager can be extremely beneficial, especially at times such as ours where time is almost everything.

On the other hand, to master time is to live a fuller life, to get most of your time, which means much the same thing as life.

Once you come to appreciate your time as a non-renewable resource (like oil!) and precious, then you are about ready to start taking this personal resource seriously, and pay it attention it deserves. Time mastery should be regarded as a way of taking off some load—never mind that the process may take a little time!

“I am definitely going to take a course on time management… just as soon as I can work it into my schedule.”
– Louis E. Boone

A tip to those aspiring to become masters of time: as you rise and shine every morning, take 10 minutes to schedule your time for the day. In other words, visualize your day, in terms of what you want to do first or at all, what urgent things are, and what things can be put off until better occasion arises, what arrangements it would be nice to make. Whatever comes to mind first should appear high up on your checklist of the day, while everything else should come next. In this way, as the day unfolds, you will know what to do next; if anything else, it gives you the nice feeling of being in command.

Make a habit of spending a few minutes each morning planning things for the day ahead, this will help you avoid having your time at the mercy of other people. Make also a habit of using a good time tracking software, such as the one this site is about. One glance at how much time you spent on each task can help prioritize them nicely and effortlessly.

To recap, Time Mastery is the degree you are in control of your time. To control time, you need a plan and a way to measure time.
